Astra Labs trade guides

Web design by trade.

A roofer, a dog groomer and an accountant need very different websites. Before designing for any business, Astra Labs reads its current site, its photos and its reviews. These 22 guides gather what we learned from 522 businesses across 22 trades: what their customers look for, what their old sites were missing, and the designs we made for them. Every site is $499 one time, with $99 to start.

  • Guides22 trades, each with its own data and designs
  • Businesses522 sorted by hand into trades
  • CountriesMostly the US, the UK, Canada and Australia
  • DataFrom our 2026 study of 1,568 small business sites

Pick your trade.

Each guide stands on its own: the needs are written from that trade's real customers and old sites, and the work shown is work we designed for businesses in that trade. We only write a guide once we have studied enough businesses in a trade to say something useful.

What we found, trade by trade.

The same checks across every trade: how many sites leaned on stock photos or still showed template content in our written reviews, and what we measured when we opened each homepage on a phone on 1 November 2026. The groups are small, so a gap of a few businesses means little.

How the guides are made

Real businesses first, advice second.

Between late September and the end of October 2026 we designed new websites for 1,568 small businesses that had answered our outreach. For each one our team wrote down what the business sells, who it sells to, what its current site was built on and what it showed, and where its own photos, films and reviews lived.

To make the guides, we read every business description by hand and sorted each business into one trade, its main one. A cleaner who also mows lawns stays a cleaner. Trades with too few businesses to say anything reliable do not get a guide yet.

None of the businesses in the guides asked to be named, so we describe each design by trade and region only. The exceptions are three clients whose live sites carry our credit: D14 Construction, Richmond Plastering and Burnside Denture Clinic.

What every site includes

One price for every trade.

Whatever the trade, an Astra Labs site is $499 one time for up to five pages written and designed for your business. You pay $99 to start, see the design, ask for changes, and pay the remaining $400 when you love it, before it goes live on your domain.

Every site comes with a real enquiry form that lands in your inbox, tap-to-call and message buttons, your own dashboard for edits, and the basics search engines read. Your domain stays registered in your name and your email keeps working. Extras are priced in the open: five more pages for $149, your old pages moved across with redirects for $149, a small shop of up to ten products for $199, and optional hosting and care for $30 a month.

Questions

Before you pick a guide.

My trade is not listed. Can Astra Labs still design my website?

Yes. The guides cover the trades where we have studied enough businesses to write something useful, but we design for small businesses of every kind at the same $499 price. Start with $99 and tell us what you do.

Does the price change by trade?

No. The site is $499 one time for up to five pages in every trade. What changes is what goes on it: a menu and reservations for a restaurant, a drawn roof for a roofer, a booking button for a salon.

Are the designs in the guides templates I can pick from?

No. Each one was designed for one business from its own photos, words and prices. Your site is designed the same way, around your business.

Where does the data in the guides come from?

From our own research on 1,568 small businesses in October 2026 and a phone check of their homepages on 1 November 2026, published as the State of Small Business Websites 2026 report, with editions for the US, the UK and Canada.
