Free tool from Astra Labs
Free website grader for small businesses.
Type your website and get a score out of 100 in about 20 seconds, with plain English fixes. We check what customers need to get in touch, plus security, speed and Google basics, and show how your site compares with 1,003 real small business homepages we measured in 2026.
16 checks, and how common each issue is.
Each figure is the share of small business homepages in our own 2026 study that had the same issue. Most sites miss a few of these, so a fix here puts you ahead quickly. Full method in The State of Small Business Websites 2026.

Customers first, then speed and search.
The score is out of 100. Getting enquiries carries the most weight, because a visitor who cannot reach you is a lost job. The form is worth 15 points, the tap to call link 11, being set up for phones 10 and a live homepage 7.
Trust and safety is worth 26 points, speed 15, and search and sharing 16. Checks marked could be better earn half their points. If a page builds itself with JavaScript and we cannot read a check, we leave it out and score the rest.
The grader reads the page code without running JavaScript, from a server in Europe. It is a quick health check, not a full audit, and it pairs well with Google PageSpeed Insights.
About the grader.
Is the website grader free?
Yes. It is free with no sign up. You can run up to 10 new checks an hour, and a result you have already run opens again at once for 24 hours.
What does the grader check?
It reads your homepage the way a search engine does, without running JavaScript, and runs 16 checks in four groups. Getting enquiries, trust and safety, speed, and search and sharing. Each check has a weight, and the score is out of 100.
Where do the percentages come from?
From our own study, The State of Small Business Websites 2026. We opened 1,251 small business homepages on a phone on 1 November 2026 and 1,003 loaded in full. Each check shows how many of those homepages had the same issue.
Why is my score different from Google PageSpeed Insights?
PageSpeed Insights loads your page in a lab browser and times it. This grader looks at what a customer needs to get in touch, plus the basics of security, size and search. The two answer different questions, so use both.
Why does a check say we could not check it?
Some sites build the page with JavaScript after it loads, so the first HTML has little in it. When that happens we leave those checks out of the score and say so, rather than guess.
Is the homepage size exact?
It is a careful estimate. We add up the HTML, stylesheets, scripts, fonts, the first images and any autoplay video named in the page. Images or video loaded later by scripts are not counted, so the real figure on a phone can be higher.
What do you keep?
We keep each result for 24 hours so your share link works, and a short log of which sites were checked. If you leave your email, we keep it with the site address so we can reply about that site.
